SPHERE - Special People Housing Education Recreation and Employment is a 501 (c) (3)non-profit organization whose mission is to improve the quality of life for individuals with developmental disabilities.

SPHERE’s mission is to improve the quality of life for individuals with developmental disabilities.  SPHERE’s major programs include SPA Performing Arts, a Summer Art Workshop and SPHERE Soap-making.  SPHERE, Inc.  was founded over twenty (20) years ago to serve local residents with developmental disabilities.  In 1989, SPHERE was certified by the Internal Revenue Service as a tax exempt organization under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.

Between the fall and early summer each year, SPHERE meets once per week in space generously donated by the Jesse Lee Church in Ridgefield, Connecticut.  We call these meetings “play practice.”  It is here that SPHERE writes, produces, creates and prepares for an annual major theatrical production that is held at the Ridgefield Playhouse.  At play practice, members sing, dance, cheer, read, learn and have a good time. 

In 2009, SPHERE also began a soap-making workshop wherein members actually make, wrap, label and then sell soaps with toys inside at local craft fairs.   Members use their artistic talent to choose toys and colors to create the soap, and have learned the process of marketing and selling the soap.  All proceeds are directly re-invested in SPHERE.
