SPHERE Programs

Our SPHERE programs improve quality of life by providing rich experience and a strong community.

Art Program

Date: Mondays – 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm
Location: 421 Main Street, Ridgefield, CT

SPHERE Art meets every Monday at SPHERE HQ, 421 Main Street to create original works in a wide range of mediums under the expert direction of Masters level art teachers.

Our members work with paint, modgepodge, photography, collage, construction, newspaper, books, pipe cleaners and beads, you name it, our teachers inspire us to play in the fields of color, shape, texture and fantasy. Each piece of art is different because each member is free to interpret the night’s project in keeping with their personal inclination. But under the guidance of creative teachers (who are also artists,) they stretch abilities and imagination. Our members are learning about the technique of fine art…and laughing a lot along the way.

Walking Club

Date: Tuesdays – 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm
Location: 421 Main Street, Ridgefield, CT

When Walking Club originated six years ago, we had only two members and one volunteer.   Today, we are a large group who can be seen walking Main Street in Ridgefield every Tuesday from 2-3pm. We maintain a healthy, manageable walking pace, and encourage members and volunteers to interact with one another in conversation, often catching up on one another’s lives, jobs and families. The social benefit at Walking Club is just as important as the healthy one.

Jewelry-Making Program

Date: Tuesdays – 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm
Location: 421 Main Street, Ridgefield, CT

SPHERE-It Creations meets weekly in our space at 421 Main Street to create beautiful, one of a kind pieces of jewelry and accessories. Part of our mission is to explore and push personal limitations and boundaries and instill confidence in our artists. Working with volunteers from the community, artists realize and often surpass their own personal potential in design, technique, and overall ability. Artists make price tags for their pieces, learn how to price their work, and finally sell their product to the customer.

Monthly free jewelry-making workshops are also held in our location at 421 Main Street. Our artists teach visitors (young and old) how to make a piece of jewelry, instilling confidence in giving directions. At the same time, artists’ personal social interaction abilities also increase. We sell our pieces during these workshops and at many local craft and street fairs.

We welcome volunteer involvement to learn also! Positive social change occurs when volunteers come and work with artists’ differing abilities and as a result, build stronger communities. Volunteers bump into artists elsewhere in the community, creating a personal bond and strengthening the fabric of our town.

The next time you see our banner at a local street fair or event, feel free to come by and pay a visit just to say hello – you can be guaranteed a welcoming smile and high five!

Cooking Program

Date: Wednesdays – 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm
Location: Ridgefield Academy, 223 West Mountain Road, Ridgefield, CT

Cooking was formed three years ago to create baked goods for our Bingo Club. Today it has evolved into a two to three course meal with dessert. Our members are hands on for every aspect of making a meal: from chopping vegetables for a salad, to shopping with a volunteer at the grocery store. After prepping and cooking, members and volunteers eat together family-style, sharing laughs and congratulating one another on a wonderful meal made together!

Music & Performing Arts

Date: Thursdays – 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm
Location: 407 Main Street, Ridgefield, CT

SPHERE’S rich and exciting Music and Performing Arts program changes lives – one act at a time! Through our affiliation with other performing arts organizations and schools, we share our mission and broaden our reach throughout the region. We meet weekly and enjoy singing, and dancing, fun and games, and we further enhance our sense of music appreciation. We all share a love of the performing arts and enjoy expressing ourselves in a variety of ways through music, movement and performance. Our music class also fosters a sense of community and friendship that serves as a warm, welcoming place for our members.

SPHERE Squad

Date: Scheduled every other Thursday – 5:45 pm to 6:30 pm
Location: 407 Main Street, Ridgefield, CT

The SPHERE Squad is our members’ own planning group, offering all of our SPHERE members an opportunity to voice their ideas about new SPHERE activities and, in turn, then helping to make those special SPHERE events happen! We meet about twice a month and all SPHERE members are invited to participate. Our SPHERE Squad has helped to plan and run our Holiday, Valentine’s Day and Halloween parties! Our Squad is also responsible for SPHERE’s birthday card mailers and has helped make our Talks workshops and events like Karaoke Night a success. Come join our SPHERE Squad and team-up with other members to bring your fun ideas to life!

SPHERE Talks

Date: Quarterly on Thursdays – 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm
Location: 407 Main Street, Ridgefield, CT

Our series of educational workshops offers “hands-on” learnings about important topics affecting our SPHERE members’ well-being and everyday living. We schedule about four workshops each year and we enlist our local community partners to design and host these customized Talks. While our audience is primarily our SPHERE membership, we also invite members’ families, caretakers and our own volunteers to participate when Talks topics are relevant to them too. In recent months, we have held a Personal Safety workshop, CPR certification course and Social Media Etiquette & Safety training. Talks currently under development include an exciting new series of Health & Wellness workshops hosted by the RVNA; a visit by Club Comfort’s therapy dogs and an Adult Advocacy Roundtable.

Bingo

Date: Fridays – 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm
Location: Ballard Green Common Room, 25 Gilbert Street, Ridgefield, CT

Every Friday SPHERE members meet in the Ballard Green community room to play Bingo. For one dollar a card, members & volunteers can play for two hours. Both members and volunteers equally participate, as members are asked to be the caller for a game, and encouraged to help each other with the different patterns. Yelling “Bingo” is a great honor, and is rewarded by winning a dollar. Snack is provided at 2pm, and Bingo is over at 3pm.
